FAQs

Questions about how we work, what to expect, or whether NorthPoint is the right fit? Here are the ones we hear most.

Which service is right for me?

It depends on where you are. If you're dealing with pain that hasn't fully resolved, Physical Therapy is the starting point. If you're healthy but want to move and perform at a higher level, Performance Training is the fit. Not sure? Start with a free consultation — that conversation will point you in the right direction.

How is this different from a standard physical therapy clinic?

Every session at NorthPoint is one-on-one with the same Doctor of Physical Therapy from start to finish — no aides, no rotating staff, no insurance-driven time limits. The evaluation goes deeper than the symptomatic area to understand how the full body is moving and where the actual breakdown is occurring.

Do I need a referral or a specific diagnosis to get started?

No referral is required. Connecticut allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can schedule a free consultation without a doctor's order. You do not need a formal diagnosis — many clients come in without one. The evaluation itself is designed to uncover what is causing the problem.

Does NorthPoint Performance accept insurance?

NorthPoint Performance is an out-of-network provider. Clients pay directly, and HSA and FSA are accepted. Superbills are provided for clients who want to seek reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits. This model allows for sessions that are not constrained by insurance authorization, visit limits, or shared-care requirements.

What can I expect from the first appointment?

The first appointment is a comprehensive evaluation — a full movement and biomechanical assessment to understand how the body is functioning, where patterns have broken down, and what is driving the problem. By the end, you will have a clear picture of what is happening and a plan to address it.
